Dear Meaning Maker:

We have all heard the saying, “there is no place like home.” But we need to ask ourselves, where is our home? We can look at some common phrases that will take us deeper than the definition in the dictionary.

Close To Home

When someone uses the phrase “close to home,” the topic of discussion is being expressed as relevant or accurate to the point that one feels. Think of the number of times you have been in a place or with someone or many people, and you think to yourself, “this feels like home.”

Being Mindful of Home

First, we must capture the feeling of trust, you must be mindful of the times you have had the feeling of being home. To expand your contemplation, consider not just the geographical locations you might have lived that felt like home, but try to zone in on the feeling.

“The Feeling is the prayer.”

Buddhist Monk – From Gregg Braden’s Account

Gregg Braden, scientist, and visionary, had the opportunity to travel around the world and research the various religions and spiritual philosophies from ancient times. Gregg Braden asked a Buddhist Monk a question about prayer and how it works, he replied, “The feeling is the prayer.”

Connecting Intention

Part of connecting to the feeling (intention) arises when we practice mindfulness. We all can connect to all our senses, i.e., see, hear, touch, taste, and olfactory (smell) and the ethereal connected to intuition which forms our lived experiences. Therefore, as we close our eyes and visualize places we have lived, people we have met, stories we have heard, we begin to see the perceived distance between us on earth, or the “heavens” universe is an illusion.

We carry our home within us.  Whether you have lived in the same home all your life or moved several times, geographically around the world, your home is everywhere and resides in your heart memory.

There’s No Place Like Home

So if you are feeling lonely or questioning how to get home, you can always do as Dorothy did in the Wizard of Oz. Dorothy was instructed to tap the heels of the magical ruby slippers three times and say, “There is no place like home……There is no place like home…There is no place like home.”

Take a deep breath in through your nose and blow out through your mouth to the count of 6 to engage your diaphragm breathing and touch your chest around the center of the heart to enter entrainment. You will shift to your heart center and find peace because our heart knows the way home. Our home will always be where our heart is.
